There’s the Comic Con in Seattle for comic and sci-fi nerds. There’s also the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco for gamers and developers. Then there’s the Vid Con and Playlist Live for new media slaves. But for tech businessmen, hackers, programmers, IT wizards, gadget geeks and computer geniuses, there’s the TechCrunch Disrupt.
The most influential people in the tech industry will be coming together at the Manhattan Center in New York to talk about technology and business with startup companies and tech alphas for four awesome days. One of the speakers invited to the said tech conference includes Roelof Both from Sequoia Capital, a venture capital firm in Menlo Park, California that also started the funding for new media giant, YouTube.com. Atom Factory CEO Troy Carter, a distinguished music mogul who made great names in the entertainment industry like Lady Gaga, will also be at the panel to talk about growth of tech companies in the U.S. Also a part of the distinguished speakers are Kevin Systrom who co-founded Instagram and Ken Lerer who acts as Huffington Post’s managing director and co-founder.
The event is set to start on April 29th, right after Hackathon, a bonding kick-off event for hackers and developers all over the world. Though Hackathon only lasts from April 27 to 28, a lot of developers and tech geeks are looking forward to this kick-off party because of the hacking challenge that TechCrunch creates to bring together teams of computer geniuses. With overflowing junk food and Red Bull, nerds are challenged to join forces and start a hacking marathon where the goal is to hack a certain product in just 24 hours. Their work will then be presented and judged by tech experts and fellow hackers.
This fun filled kick-off nerd party will then be followed by four days of conferences from industry experts as well as the presentation from various startup companies who are looking to find funding for their projects on the TechCrunch Disrupt stage. This year, TechCrunch will be hosting 100 startup companies with exciting tech products for the market, most of which are launching for the first time. Their startup projects will be competing later on in the Startup Battlefield and may just have the chance to win $50,000 in funding for their products. Last year, winners of the TechCrunch Disrupt, which was held in San Francisco, included: UberConference, an audio and visual conference application; Shaker, a virtual, avatar-based game; Getaround, a car rental application; and QWiki, a video presentation application. The event will also feature big manufacturers, sponsoring exhibits and hardware startup companies looking to partner with new and upcoming tech innovations to be brought into the market. Tech fans can also expect a landslide of new technologies and even mobile devices that will probably make you want to sell all your current gadgets in preparation for the future tech that Disrupt will be showcasing.
